BBC NEWS | Americas | Storm in US over chocolate Jesus

Chocolate Jeezus, Chocolate Jeezus, ridin' on the dashboard of mah car . . .

It's finally Happened! The ultimate and definitive connection between the pagan and xian holiday - Chocolate Jesus!!

I guess there's no suprise that the Catholics are up in arms about it. I'm sure a little bit of research would turn up an objection from our pal Pat Robertson, too; this crowd's all too predictable. I'm curious if the objection is to the material or the subject matter. Well, since the pope is a former hitler youth (remember the german sermon at the conentration camp!?)

The Catholic League, which describes itself as the nation's largest Catholic civil rights organisation, also criticised the timing of the exhibition.

"The fact that they chose Holy Week shows this is calculated, and the timing is deliberate," Mr Donohue said.

Suggestion: in order t give the sculpture more reverence, he should create stimata fom the hands with a carefully concealed bladder filled with Hershey's chocolate syrup. I'd suggest the strawberry syrup, but that would seem a little hack . . .

BBC NEWS | Americas | US military unveils heat-ray gun

"Called the Active Denial System, it projects an invisible high energy beam that produces a sudden burning feeling, but is said to be harmless. "

Really; what's the point!

BBC NEWS | UK | Human species 'may split in two'

I had to not laugh when I read this:

"The descendants of the genetic upper class would be tall, slim, healthy, attractive, intelligent, and creative and a far cry from the 'underclass' humans who would have evolved into dim-witted, ugly, squat goblin-like creatures. "

Isn't this the premise to almost every high budget sci-fi flop?
Hey! Dim-witted, ugly, squat goblin-like creatures UNITE!

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Media attacked for 'climate porn'

I like the term 'climate porn' - now, just for fun, take every instance of the word 'climate' and replace it with 'global terrorism'. Then see who says the arguements are still valid.

BBC NEWS | Health | 'Anti-obesity vaccine' developed

BBC NEWS | Health | 'Anti-obesity vaccine' developed

It's truely amazing that in a world that has so many people living in poverty and hunger, we need a vaccine for obesity. I guess we'll need one for 'rich white guilt' sooner or later, too.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Israel 'not ready for truce yet'

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Israel 'not ready for truce yet':

"Mr Peretz described the temporary cessation of air strikes on southern Lebanon, which Israel says is to allow an investigation into the incident and give civilians trapped in the region a chance to escape, as a 'humanitarian gesture'. "

The world is truly a nauseating place these days.

BBC NEWS | Business | Bush expletive recorded on CCTV

BBC NEWS Business Bush expletive recorded on CCTV

It shouldn't surprise anyone that a xian has a potty mouth (usually more so than most).
No one seems to talk about what was said -

"The irony is, what they really need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit, and it's over . . ."

SO . . . what was the irony? What yould be over?

Nothing like dipping into someone's conversation. It's a bit like what Lewis Black said: 'If it wasn't for that horse, I wouldn't have had to spend that year in college'.

I can't believe I missed this. If you have seen or heard 'The Power of Nightmares', then read Adam Curtis's responses to viewer questions. Very enlightening!

Two Parties, One Club

BBC NEWS Americas Republicans unveil lobbying curbs

No matter what Democrat sympathizers like Al Franken say, we most certainly live in a one party state masquerading as a two party state.

From the article -
Some Democrats are also said to be implicated in the case, which correspondents say is an unexploded bomb under both houses.

Nader may not be the most effective at being a politician, but that doesn't make him any less right.
---
Side note - Anyone who really wants to be president of the United States probably doesn't deserve the post - I have to include Nader in that camp.

A hoax most cruel

A hoax most cruel
By Andrew Wolfson

Published in the Courier-Journal of Louiville, KY

I found this link on BoingBoing and my jaw hit the floor. It sounded so incredible that I had to validate the article against other sources (I could only find a few online that wasn't a blog)

http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=112414&format=text

http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=1297922&page=1

The specific of these incidents have been beaten to death by other blogs, so I'll forego that for now.
My question is - 'Why am I just hearing about this on BoingBoing?' It may be my fault, for not getting my news from the television, but when that Wendy's chili finger incident was news, it was news all over. For this incident, which would serve as a cautionary tale, and maybe force people to think a little more about what's going on around them. At the very least, it could have served to warn the folks likely to respond to Nigerian Bank emails that something's up when a cop calls collect to tell you to strip search an employee.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Microsoft aims to trounce Google

One day, Bill Gates will grow old and die, as will every one of us -

Our success is overwhelmingly greater than theirs [Apple's] is - they are learning from us every step of the way and we are learning from them . . ."

"We are stronger than ever because we have a research lab in Cambridge, we have one now in China, one in India and that is where the top problems in computer science are going to be solved."

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Full text of Harriet Ellan Miers' letter

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4382802.stm

Never mind the cronyism, or the fact that the only reason she wasn't actually confirmed was because conservatives didn't think she was conservative enough (Democrats caught a lucky break - the fights come this easy, and they couldn't cut their way out of a paper bag with a butcher knife!)

Her lame-ass excuse-
As you know, members of the Senate have indicated their intention to seek documents about my service in the White House in order to judge whether to support me.

I have been informed repeatedly that in lieu of records, I would be expected to testify about my service in the White House to demonstrate my experience and judicial philosophy.

While I believe that my lengthy career provides sufficient evidence for consideration of my nomination, I am convinced the efforts to obtain Executive Branch materials and information will continue.

As I stated in my acceptance remarks in the Oval Office, the strength and independence of our three branches of government are critical to the continued success of this great Nation.

comes off as a cheap cop-out. Bush couldn't sell her to a death row inmate, and Democrats are so lame that they can't take the credit for getting rid of her. I'm sure that they will attack the exit to the point that it becomes another red herring conspiracy theorem, and no one will care. The free ride is just about over for the Neo-Cons, who have just about run out of rope with the Xian Right.
Looks like people are starting to remember that none of these jokers are our friends. Think I'll bask in it, short lived as it is.

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | US cancels 'mini-nukes' programme

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4377446.stm

Look. The only reason this idea was floated about was because Rumsfeld was on the news circuit telling everyone that there was 'intelligence' stating that Osama bin Laden had massive underground bunkers carved into mountains. Listening to him tell it, you'd think that he was a nemesis of James Bond. Of course, we (well, most of us) have accepted that it was a fabrication. We just don't care. And of course, we will be fooled again. And again, and again, and again.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Iranian weapons are found in Iraq

All sense of credibility go out the window when this ass opens his mouth. I really believe that the only way these people feel alive is when there's some kind of pending threat; real or otherwise.

I'm sure that, given enough times and repititions, the US news media will find a secret alliance between Iraq and Iran, and we will all ned to reconvince ourselves that Goldstein (1984) has betrayed us again.
